Linking Spot by Flexera as a source
Let AI connect your sources for you
Skip the manual setup — run this in your project and the wizard auto-detects your databases and APIs and connects them to PostHog.

Contents
This source is currently in alpha. The interface and available tables may change.
The Spot by Flexera (Spotinst) connector syncs your cloud cost optimization data into PostHog – Elastigroups, Ocean Kubernetes clusters, stateful nodes, and per-instance cost/savings breakdowns. Use it to join FinOps data with your product analytics, build cost dashboards, or correlate infrastructure spend with revenue and usage.
Prerequisites
You need a Spot by Flexera account with an API token. The token grants read access to your Elastigroup, Ocean, and Stateful Node resources plus their cost data.
Adding a data source
- In PostHog, go to the Sources tab of the data pipeline section.
- Click + New source and click Link next to this source.
- Enter your credentials (see Configuration below) and click Next.
- Select the tables you want to sync, choose a sync method and frequency, then click Import.
Once the syncs are complete, you can start querying this data in PostHog.
When linking Spot by Flexera, you'll need:
- API token (required) – generate one in the Spot console under Settings → API → Permanent Token.
- Account ID (optional) – your Spot account ID (e.g.
act-123abcd). Only required if your token has access to multiple accounts and you want to scope the sync to a specific one.
Sync modes
Each table can be synced in one of several modes, depending on what the source supports:
- Webhook (when available) – the source pushes changes to PostHog in real time. Fastest freshness, lowest ongoing cost, and the only mode that reliably captures updates and deletes.
- Incremental – only new or updated rows are synced on each run, using a cursor field (such as an
updated_attimestamp). Cheaper than a full refresh, but deletes aren't captured. - Append only – new rows are appended using a cursor field; existing rows are never updated. Ideal for immutable, append-only tables like event logs.
- Full refresh – the whole table is reloaded on every sync. Use it when a table has no reliable cursor or when you need deletions reflected.
See sync methods for a full explanation of how each mode works and how to choose between them.
The Spot by Flexera API doesn't expose a reliable server-side timestamp filter on any endpoint, so every table syncs with a full refresh on each run. The elastigroup_costs table pulls a fixed rolling 30-day window of per-instance cost data.
| Table | Sync method |
|---|---|
elastigroups | Full refresh |
ocean_clusters | Full refresh |
stateful_nodes | Full refresh |
elastigroup_costs | Full refresh |
Configuration
| Option | Type | Required |

Supported tables
| Table | Description | Sync method | Incremental field | Primary key |
|---|---|---|---|---|
elastigroups | An AWS Elastigroup: a fleet of spot/on-demand EC2 instances managed together for cost-optimized capacity, with a defined scaling strategy and launch configuration. | Full refresh | — | — |
ocean_clusters | An Ocean cluster: the configuration Spot uses to manage a Kubernetes cluster's worker node capacity across spot, on-demand, and reserved instances. | Full refresh | — | — |
stateful_nodes | A Stateful Node: a single persistent EC2 instance managed by Spot with attached storage and network state preserved across spot interruptions. | Full refresh | — | — |
elastigroup_costs | Per-instance realized cost and savings for an Elastigroup over a rolling 30-day window, broken down by running time and actual vs. potential (on-demand) spend. | Full refresh | — | — |
Troubleshooting
- Authentication failed (401) – your API token is invalid or expired. Generate a new permanent token in the Spot console and reconnect the source.
- Insufficient permissions (403) – your API token doesn't have the required permissions. Check that the token has read access to the Elastigroup, Ocean, and Managed Instance APIs in your Spot account.
